It sucks to be ignored – even if it’s just a dream!
But why do such dreams happen in the first place?
More often than not, a dream of being ignored points to your internalized issues – as well as the relationships you have with other people. If you want to learn more about these, then make sure to read this dream’s interpretations below.
Why You Dream About Being Ignored
According to Sigmund Freud, dreaming is the body’s way of processing events that happened when you were awake. So if you’re dreaming about being ignored, then it may be due to the following factors:
1. Repressed Emotions
If you are repressing emotions – aka hiding and pushing away negative sentiments – then you’ll most likely dream about being ignored by someone.
Needless to say, this dream is a push for you to process these emotions – instead of just ignoring these feelings of guilt.
According to Healthline, you can do this by:
- Using “I” statements
- Focusing on the positive
- Letting go of judgments
- Checking in with your emotions through journaling or artwork
2. Feeling Left Out
Have you experienced social situations where you feel left out by family or friends? This is truly painful. In fact, this rejection may end up affecting your level of self confidence in the long run.
At the same time, these feelings may lead you to dream about being ignored. They’re quite the same, after all.
To address these emotions – and curb the dreams that come with them – you should:
- Work (and strengthen) your self-confidence
- Change your narrative
- Focus on your personal growth
- Reach out to others
- Forge new friendships
You’re different, which is why your peers have failed to accept you. Unfortunately, the loneliness associated with this non-acceptance may lead you to dream about being ignored nightly.
I get that you have a growing need for attention and acceptance from the people around you. But for this to happen, you need to accept yourself first. You are special, and you have a place in this world.
If they fail to accept your uniqueness, then it’s their loss – not yours!
4. Emotional Detachment
Whether it’s due to trauma (such as verbal abuse) – or stubbornness – detaching yourself emotionally from others can lead to dreams about being ignored.
Unfortunately, if left unaddressed, this feeling of detachment can lead to poor self-esteem, problematic relationships, as well as alcohol/drug abuse.
You don’t want these to happen!
So if you want to heal this detachment – and avoid the dreams that come with it – then you need to:
- Improve your sense of self
- Trust others
- Open up to others (but not rant to them)
- Learn how to regulate your emotions
- Find ways to relieve stress and anxiety
5. Loss of Control
When you dream about being ignored, then it could be a sign that you’ve lost control of your life.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing much you can do about this. Things happen for a reason. And, no matter how hard you try, you may not be able to change them.
But, if you want to stop these dreams from happening, then you need to focus on acceptance. This fresh idea is all about trusting in the wisdom of the universe. It may not feel like it, but what’s happening to you is all part of the higher power’s grand plan.
What does it mean when you dream about being ignored?
In some cases, you may dream about being ignored by a person near or dear to you. Of course, interpretations vary according to the individual who has ignored you in your dream.
Here are some common examples:
1. Ignored by Your Lover
More often than not, this dream could be a metaphor for your current relationship.
Perhaps, your needs are not being met by your partner. You feel like you’re not getting the attention or love you deserve.
Worse, they may be abusing you physically or emotionally.
Whatever the circumstances may be, this dream is a sign for you to discuss things with your partner. Tell them what you feel, so that you could work things out together.
If things don’t change, and they continue with their carelessness, then it may be time for you to walk out. You deserve a new beginning!
2. Ignored by a Family Member
Do you often dream about family members ignoring you? Then it may be a sign of their passive-aggressiveness towards you.
That being said, they may not know that they’re hurting you in the process. They think that what they’re doing is okay, although it’s not! As such, the best thing to do here is to talk things out with this family member in your dream.
3. Ignored by a Friend
Do your friends ignore you in your dream? Then this could mirror one of the reasons I’ve mentioned above: the feeling of being left out.
Maybe you feel like they’re excluding you from decisions, get-togethers, and whatnot.
As this feeling of being left out may just be a figment of your imagination, you need to make some reflections first. What makes you think that they’re purposely excluding you from their plans?
Once you’ve figured out the answer, work to focus on your worth and self-love. I know it’s hard to find friends nowadays, but you don’t deserve those that don’t treat you well.
4. Ignored by Co-Workers
If you often find yourself being ignored by your co-workers in your dream, then this is likely a manifestation of what you feel at work. You’re probably unhappy with your job, or perhaps you feel like your efforts are not being appreciated there.
This may be a sign for you to quit, especially if your work is just bringing you frustration and anxiety.
Then again, this may be a nudge for you to assert yourself more. Who knows? This confidence may lead to infinite possibilities, such as the promotion (and pay raise) you deserve!
Apart from being ignored by specific individuals, you may dream about being ignored in certain locations. Here’s what to make out of them:
5. Ignored on the Phone
Say you dreamed about calling a phone operator and they end up ignoring you. According to dream experts, it’s a sign of the frustration you feel in your life. Maybe you feel overwhelmed with all the responsibility that has been put on your shoulders.
This dream may also be your brain’s way of telling you that you need to deal with your issues, particularly that of substance abuse.
If you feel helpless, all you need to do is reach out to the people around you. They can help you achieve the strict discipline you need to kick your bad habits for good.
6. Ignored at Home
It can be frustrating to dream about being ignored inside your own home. However, this is just your mind’s way of telling you that you’re disregarding that voice inside you.
Your gut wants to tell you something – but you’re just not listening!
So, in case you dream about this again, I recommend tuning to that voice inside you. If you find it hard to do this, you can always try to do mindfulness practice or meditation.
Remember: your intuition can guide you to the happiness you deserve.
7. Ignored at a Reunion
So you’re at a reunion party with your friends and you’re having a ball. Suddenly, you realize that everyone else is ignoring you.
Unfortunately, this is a sign of the issues you have deep within you. They’re interfering with your progress and development. In fact, this dream is a stark reminder for you to address these matters, for this will help you move forward with your life.
Being ignored at a reunion is also a reminder for you to work on your current relationships. It’s time for you to be more emotionally open. Reach out to the people you love the most – they need your support, after all!
8. Ignored at a Dance
If you find yourself getting ignored at a dance, then this dream might be telling you to nurture your creativity. Dancing is an artistic way of expressing yourself, after all.
Whenever you find yourself ignoring that creative call inside you – don’t. You’ll be surprised by what happens once you get these ideas flowing.
9. Ignored at a Barbecue
I know that this is a peculiar location to be ignored, but it’s an alarming one. It’s a sign of appropriation.
It’s time for you to take good control of the things in your life. More importantly, you need to be more considerate of the way you treat or act around people.
Dreaming about being ignored can be frustrating. However, this often happens because of repressed emotions, the feeling of being left out and/or non-acceptance, emotional detachment, and the loss of control in your life.
As such, it’s best to address these issues right from the get-go. While it may not be easy, doing so may help stop your dreams of being ignored!
